Internal Medicine

Internal Medicine physicians are specially trained in treating adult patients for common illnesses, preventive care, and chronic or multiple diagnostic problems. These include the treatment and management of:

  • Arthritis
  • Digestive diseases
  • Cancer
  • Respiratory disorders
  • Hormonal disorders
  • Kidney disease
  • Women's health (not obstetrics)
  • Substance abuse
  • Mental health

Internists also coordinate and manage patient care with other specialists, and some specialize in dialysis, echocardiography (stress and trans-esophageal), pulmonary function and stress testing, sleep disorders, and endoscopy (Marshall).
